Synopsis

Awaking from a coma to discover his wife has been killed in a car accident, Ben's (Colin Firth) world may as well have come to an end. A few weeks later Ben is out of hospital, and attempting to rebuild his life, he moves home and is befriended by Charlotte (Mena Suvari), his beautiful, young neighbour. But all is not what it seems and haunted by visions of his dead wife, Ben starts to lose his grip on reality...

Trauma explores what happens when a bereaved man, unable to make sense of his situation, retreats into a delusional world where he can no longer distinguish between what is real and what is not. In following Ben's story, the film deals with many common themes - grief, loneliness and denial.

As Marc Evans the Director sees it: "It's a film that deals with phenomena which we understand as a generation... the loneliness of urban life in a city like London compared to the prevalence everywhere of media, celebrity magazines and reality television. Real life is something we sometimes neglect to take care of..."

All-Star Cast

BAFTA and Emmy Award nominated Colin Firth shot to stardom as Mr Darcy in the BBC's Pride & Prejudice but was receiving critical acclaim many years before with his debut in Another Country and won the Royal Television Society's Best Actor award for his outstanding performance in Tumbledown. Immortalised in the Bridget Jones novels, Firth took up the role of Darcy in both the film adaptations.

Mena Suvari wowed the world in Sam Mendes' American Beauty as Kevin Spacey's teenage temptress and has a recurring role in the smash hit HBO series Six Feet Under. Her versatility has also seen Mena excel at comedy in the American Pie films.

The film also stars Naomie Harris (28 Days Later, After the Sunset), Tommy Flanagan (Gladiator), Sean Harris (24-Hour Party People), Brenda Fricker (Veronica Guerin) and Ken Cranham (Gangster No 1).
