Having made a small fortune speculating in historic real estate in the former Eastern bloc countries, young American investment banker Jonathan Harker and his Italian girlfriend Mina have settled in Budapest. A client, Count Vladislav Tepes, who is interested in purchasing the large estate of Carfax in the city, summons Jonathan to Romania to settle the deal. Arriving in the Carpathian Mountains, Jonathan discovers the Count is an old man apparently living alone in a dilapidated mountaintop castle.

One night during his stay, Jonathan is visited and seduced by a trio of eerily irresistible women, but their tryst in interrupted by the furious Count who claims the young man belongs only to him. Waking the next morning, Jonathan is shocked to discover the previous evening's events were not just a vivid nightmare. Overcome with panic and in a desperate bid to escape the castle, he stumbles across an underground chapel where he finds a coffin containing the pale, seemingly lifeless body of the Count...

But Jonathan's terrible discovery is just the beginning of a sequence of events that will forever change the lives of Jonathan, Mina and their small circle of friends, including the seductive Lucy Westenra, who finds herself fatally in thrall to the vampire's demonic charm.

Beautifully shot on location in Hungary, the mini-series Dracula presents a modern and highly original interpretation of Stoker's novel that still manages to remain remarkably faithful to its source material.
