Based on the extraordinary true story of Scottish rap duo Silibil N' Brains, California Schemin' follows lifelong friends Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd as they struggle to break into the music industry.

Frustrated by repeated rejection because of their Scottish accents, the pair hatch an audacious plan to reinvent themselves as Californian hip-hop artists. Their deception quickly spirals into an unlikely success, earning them a record deal, MTV appearances and a taste of fame, but as the lies grow ever more elaborate, the pressure threatens to destroy both their friendship and the dream they worked so hard to achieve.

Directed by James McAvoy in his feature directorial debut, California Schemin' is a funny, heartfelt and energetic tale about ambition, identity and the price of chasing success.

California Schemin' is released on DVD and Blu-ray 6th July 2026 from StudioCanal.
