When Evan (Ashton Kutcher) learns he can change the nature of his painful life by altering the past, he accidentally transforms the lives of everyone he holds most dear – with chilling consequences. His new existence spirals dangerously out of control as he races to discover the single event from his past that will save his life and reunite him with his one true love.

Ashton Kutcher (Evan Treborn) excels in his first serious role as a young man in search of balance through the parallel universes of his life. Kutcher, perhaps most well known for dating Demi Moore, rose to stardom through comedic roles in hits such as Dude Where's My Car and Just Married.

Amy Smart (Kayleigh Miller) has made it to superstar status from very small beginnings and first gained notice for supporting roles in teen hits Varsity Blues and Outside Providence. In what is still a relatively short career, Smart has appeared in over twenty feature films alongside some of Hollywood's biggest names. Her impressive filmography includes hits such as Road Trip, Hat Race and Starsky & Hutch.

Eric Stoltz (Mr Miller) made his mark on the Hollywood scene in the 1985 film, Mask, for which he received a wealth of critical acclaim and a Golden Globe nomination. The star of close to seventy movies, Stoltz has continued to mix studio films with smaller independent projects. His roles of note include Killing Zoe, Pulp Fiction, Rob Roy, The House of Mirth and The Rules of Attraction.

The Butterfly Effect also features strong supporting performances from Melora Walters (Magnolia, Cold Mountain) and Elden Henson (She's All That, Cast Away).
