Cage stars as Benjamin Franklin Gates, a descendent from generations of treasure hunters and entrusted with his family's legacy. Throughout his life, Benjamin has lived with the knowledge that his family was chosen to protect the clues that lead to a fabulous treasure hidden by the Founding Fathers of the United States of America.

The treasure, originally accumulated by a secret group known as the Knights Templar, has been added to by different civilisations throughout the ages and is of such value that treasure hunters will do anything to get their hands on it. When Benjamin is double crossed by his partner, the mastermind criminal millionaire, Ian Howe, (Sean Bean: Troy, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring) after cracking the code pointing to the next clue, the adventure truly begins. Benjamin must pit his wits against his former ally and the FBI to save himself, his friends, his reputation and a true national treasure.

Benjamin is supported in his quest by technical whiz, Riley Poole (Justin Bartha: Gigli) and the curator of The National Archives, Dr Abigail Chase (Diane Kruger: Troy, Wicker Park). Together they must unravel the many codes and clues, including symbols on the one dollar bill and a secret map on the back of the Declaration of Independence to unearth the treasure's location. Constantly haunted by the tales he was told by his grandfather (Christopher Plummer: A Beautiful Mind, Alexander) and ignoring the warnings of his father (Jon Voight: Enemy of the State, Pearl Harbor, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider), Benjamin must be willing to sacrifice everything to fulfil his family's destiny.

Synopsis

Since childhood, Benjamin Franklin Gates has known that his descendants were entrusted with a secret that would ultimately lead to a treasure hidden by the Founding Fathers of the United States of America. The location of the treasure has remained one of history's best kept secrets and can only be discovered by deciphering numerous cryptic clues, including symbols in the country's currency and a map on the back of the Declaration of Independence. 

Learning of a plot to steal the Declaration so the map can be examined, Benjamin has only one option: steal it himself. Even if he pulls off this monumental task, keeping the treasure safe is still going to be incredibly difficult, especially since the FBI has also found out about the scheme and is hot on his and the gang of crook's tails'.
