The Limit

Details

Starring Hollywood legend, Academy Award nominee and BAFTA Award winner Lauren Bacall (Manderlay; Birth), Academy Award nominee Pete Postlethwaite (The Constant Gardener; Dark Water), Claire Forlani (Green Street; The Medallion) and Henry Czerny (The Exorcism Of Emily Rose), The Limit, released on DVD by MIA on 20th February 2006, is an intense crime thriller that is guaranteed to keep viewers on the edge of their seats until its totally unexpected and shocking finale.

Lauren Bacall stars as May Markham, a fiercely proud, elderly woman struggling to maintain her independence despite the urging of her friends and neighbours to move to a nursing home. Meanwhile, in another part of the city, the pressures of an extended undercover operation have taken their toll on narcotics cop, Monica Prince (Claire Forlani).

As part of a major drug sting, she has assumed the role of girlfriend to Gale Carmody (Pete Postlethwaite), a powerful crime boss and the head of a local drug-running syndicate. Having gone so deep undercover in Carmody's world, Monica has become addicted to heroin. The lives of the two women are coincidentally but inextricably brought together by Denny (Henry Czerny), Monica's real-life lover and May's next-door neighbour. A former con and current member of Carmody's crew, Denny has recently turned informant, secretly reporting Carmody's activities to Monica's chief officer.

May's apparently peaceful existence is suddenly thrown into chaos when Denny is discovered in his apartment with a bullet in his head and Monica unexpectedly arrives to question her about the disappearance of a mysterious package from Denny's mailbox. But was Denny's death the result of suicide or murder? And what was in the package that Monica is so desperate to find? As events unfold, Monica is forced to question which side of the law her loyalties lie, while May finds herself being held hostage by a surprise captor.

An intelligent and tense movie that carefully reveals its complex plot through a kaleidoscopic series of flashbacks, The Limit is a compelling mystery thriller enhanced by exceptional performances from every member of its stellar cast.
