Details
Set in a bombed-out, post-war Vienna, The Third Man, released by Optimum Home Entertainment on 25th September 2006, stars Cotten as Holly Martins, a writer of pulp Westerns, who arrives penniless as guest of his childhood chum Harry Lime, only to find him dead. Martins develops the ultimate conspiracy theory after learning of a "third man" present at the time of Harry's death, running into interference from investigating British officer Trevor Howard and falling head-over-heels for Harry's grief-stricken lover, Alida Valli.
This will be the first U.K. theatrical release of the complete director's cut, eleven minutes longer than the version shortened for American audiences by co-producer Selznick, and featuring an opening narration by Reed himself (replaced by Cotten's in the U.S. version).
An all-time classic The Third Man features some of the screen's most memorable set pieces -- the chase through the sewers, the enormous ferris wheel, the elm-lined cemetery -- and Anton Karas' zither score, a worldwide phenomenon in itself. This DVD Special Edition includes for the first time the 90 minute documentary Shadowing the Third Man.
