Set in springtime in Mongolia's Gobi Desert, The Story Of The Weeping Camel is a blend of recreated scenes and documentary footage that follows the lives of a tribe of nomads whose livelihood based on raising animals is slowly being eliminated.

It is birthing season for the herd of camels and the tribe carefully monitor the newborn calves. All goes smoothly with the pregnant camels until the final one when, after a difficult birth, the first time mother abandons her calf and refuses it milk. The longer he is denied his mother's milk, the more probable it is that the small camel will perish.

Two children in the family, young Ugna and his brother Dude are sent to a nearby town to bring a local musician back home with them; a journey which brings them into contact with the unfamiliar temptations of the Western world: satellite TV, sweets and shopping! This modern-day miracle-worker returns with the boys and duly performs an age-old ritual, the last chance to reunite mother and baby…
