Synopsis
Set in the exotic backdrop of the mythical Arabian Kingdom Agrabah, Aladdin follows the fortunes of Aladdin, a street smart 'diamond in the rough', and his pet monkey Abu, who both dream of escaping their street-rat existence. The Sultan's free-spirited daughter, Princess Jasmine, longs to escape her life too - as she is expected to choose a prince to marry. When she escapes from the palace dressed as a peasant to experience life as a commoner, she meets Aladdin who is instantly smitten with her. But all too soon, she's caught and taken back to the palace.
Fate intervenes when Aladdin is recruited by the Sultan's evil sorcerer, Jafar, to help retrieve a magic lamp from deep within a cave of wonders. With one rub of the lamp he meets up with the most hip and totally unpredictable Genie anyone could ever wish for - and is granted three of his very own wishes!
Together Aladdin and the Genie embark on a magic carpet ride of adventure to keep the lamp and its powers from the clutches of Jafar and capture Jasmine's heart. Through the ensuing twists, turns, challenges and danger Aladdin must learn to be himself - and that's one wish the Genie can't grant!
Aladdin's stellar vocal cast is headed by the irrepressible Genie, voiced by Hollywood's leading funnyman Robin Williams (Mrs Doubtfire) in a memorably hilarious performance. The romantic hero and his headstrong Princess are voiced by the outstanding talents of Scott Weinger (Mickey's House of Villains) and Linda Larkin (TV's House of Mouse). The evil Jafar is played with menacing conviction by Jonathan Freeman (The Ice Storm) and his cheeky sidekick Iago the Parrot is voiced by comedian Gilbert Gottfried.
