Details
Sergio Leone's landmark Western, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, the most famous of all the "Spaghetti Westerns", has been restored to its full length with the addition of 18 minutes of missing footage from the original Italian version and will be released by MGM Home Entertainment Limited on a double-disc Special Edition DVD with re-mastered picture and sound on 26th April 2004.
As well as the missing sequences, for which stars Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach re-dubbed their voices, this two-disc release in highly collectable packaging also boasts excellent extras
Much imitated, never equalled, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly spawned a whole new genre and influenced generations of directors including Peckinpah, Raimi, Tarantino, Woo and Rodriguez.
Starring Eastwood, a.k.a. "Blondie", as The Good with his trademark poncho, beard and thin cigar, Wallach, a.k.a. "Tuco", as The Ugly, and Van Cleef, a.k.a. "Angel Eyes", it's the story of about three men searching for $200,000 in buried gold coins during the final days of the Civil War.
Heralded as the greatest Western of all time, the film boasts some excellent and suspenseful set-pieces including the battle for a bridge involving hundreds of extras, and the final scene's stand off in a cemetery during which extreme close-ups and Morricone's unforgettable score heighten the almost unbearable tension.
From sun-drenched panoramas to bold hard close-ups, the exceptional camera work also captures the beauty and the cruelty of the barren landscape and the hardened characters that stride unwaveringly through it.
Directed with operatic grandeur by the legendary Leon, this Special Edition release will be out to buy on 26th April 2004
